September Skies
Are You Ready?
Seth sat alone in total darkness, quiet, cold, and moist…. A bright light appeared in the distance. It came closer, but as it approached it split into two lights. His face burned, but he could see his breath in the cold. The skin on his face started to move. Almost like a tugging on his skin, and a tingly sensation that reminded him of being half asleep. Except something wasn’t right? Something was trying to get his attention. He tried to move, but couldn’t. He tried to speak, but he couldn’t form the words.
Seth gave up. Exhausted, he raced through his thoughts. “Was I wrong? Did I lead this whole crusade out of mistaken doctrine? No way? No way?” But the facts appeared to be different.
Distant laughter made Seth try to raise his head, other souls were laughing at him. He squirmed to no avail. Despair set in. No matter how hard he tried he couldn’t move. His arms were stuck. A loud pounding on metal echoed in his mind. No… it sounded more like a screen door? Well, it could be a screen door?
Seth tried to get a hold of his senses. “A screen door!”
Cruz and Jovel stood at Seth’s door laughing at him.
Jovel leaned back pointing. “You fell asleep at the drums and got tangled up.”
Cruz added. “You never even made it to the ground.”
Seth recognized the tugging on his face as Aizu licked him. He sat up and saw Tasi and Christopher walking up the driveway.
Cammy popped her head in the front door. “Marcus got a new guitar, but forgot it at home, so he’ll be a few minutes late.”
Seth grabbed the back of his neck, and tried to stretch. “What day is it?”
Cruz answered. “It feels like Saturday, but you’re the one who changed this week’s practice to Sunday, why?”
“No. The date?”
“What are you talking about man?” Jovel couldn’t stop laughing.
Cruz grabbed a beer from the fridge. “Is this your April Fool’s joke? Ha... ha... ha...”
Seth looked at the RPG displayed on the television. The black bellowing clouds retreated, and the RPG letters faded from view. He broke down and started crying.
Megumi came out of the bedroom to the living room. “Hi guys!”
Seth saw her and his cries grew even louder, as did the laughter from Cruz and Jovel. Cruz tried to apologize, but Seth didn’t mind. His tears were of a different kind. These were the tears of a brotherhood, for having played RPG he knew what was ahead of them.
Seth took RPG out of the X-Box and put Rock Band back in. It was time to practice. Their concert tour was fast approaching.
