What about the five churches Christ found fault with? Are these not the denominations comprising sheep being led to the slaughter? According to John's record aren't these the churches of today? Sure there are many different churches, but Christ just endorsed two. Reality is that the Word is not as diverse as the beliefs and actions of those who claim it to be would like you to think. The word is in fact a legal document. It is a contract. A contract that is unified and supportive of a consistent doctrine. It is written to mean the same thing to everyone. So why doesn't everyone teach the same thing? How could these five others not see what was so clear to the previous two?
To Ephesus it is written…
Revelation 2: 4
Nevertheless I have somewhat against thee, because thou hast left thy first love.
To Pergamos it is written…
Revelation 2: 14
But I have a few things against thee, because thou hast there them that hold the doctrine of Balaam, who taught Balac to cast a stumblingblock before the children of Israel, to eat things sacrificed unto idols, and to commit fornication.
To Thyatira it is written…
Revelation 2: 20
Notwithstanding I have a few things against thee, because thou sufferest that woman Jezebel, which calleth herself a prophetess, to teach and to seduce my servants to commit fornication, and to eat things sacrificed unto idols.
To Sardis it is written…
Revelation 3: 2
Be watchful, and strengthen the things which remain, that are ready to die: for I have not found thy works perfect before God.
To the Laodiceans it is written…
Revelation 3: 16
So then because thou art lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will spue thee out of my mouth.
My homework is written to proclaim the victory over an entity about to make the scene claiming to lead all, so I'm not going to break down these churches that fell short on an individual basis anymore than I'm going to give credibility to any of the denominations stinking up the truth today. They all fall into the same bucket. This homework is your call to action. If you see something that reminds you of your church then step out of it and clean your shoe. You can write a book about it. That would be your homework. I'm not as interested as naming the blotted as I am in helping people become indelible via truth. After all these comments were not directed to the churches back in Christ's day. Not at all. That is just what most people imagine since it is a historical commentary or the names sound old… no way my friend. The names of these churches are irrelevant. It is the doctrine that you need to pay attention to. It makes no difference if a church calls itself the church of Philadelphia if they don't teach the same doctrine outlined in 3:9. And any church that does teach the same is just as qualified under that scripture regardless of their name. Second we are specifically talking about the transition between the end of this earth age and the beginning of the Lord's Day. So this is yet future. Where are these churches and how did they go astray? Better focus on the two without fault (Smyrna and Philadelphia). They do not chase a fantasy and they keep His story straight. The same consistent story that you read about here.
The fact Christ makes comments to these churches should let you know that He does see a difference in what churches do. It does mean something to Him when you and your church tinker with traditions. He knows they will make you vulnerable to the end time delusion so He took the time to address the very subject. Getting past your church's empty ceremonies and twisted concepts is critical to unlocking the mysteries outlined throughout this work. The very mysteries that our Father has clearly described in His letter to you… the Bible is His letter to you. It is how He communicates what you need to know. Not just history, but the future too. You now know that 5 of 7 got it wrong enough it made the official recording (i.e. the book of Revelation). You can check history or you can check religious heritage but in the end you will find the same truths have survived time and the same falsehoods have permeated time. Here you are today the recipient of your heritage and cultural knowledge. I just hope you understand that the lost profit due to what today's churches lack includes awareness to the spiritual reality that will be tested in the time to come. Not in twenty or thirty years but at this very time.
Christianity is not a religion it's a reality...
